Product Description:

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor is a device found in the intake manifold, next to or on the throttle body, and is typically used to measure the intake manifold pressure. With the readings obtained, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) is able to calculate the air density as well as determining the air-fuel mixture required for the combustion process. The pressure sensor also provides other useful data to the ECU, such as, engine load, fuel injection pulse, and ignition timing.

In addition to the functions above, the MAP sensor can also detect any issues with the throttle, analyze for vacuum leak in the intake manifold, and convert the sensor signal into air mass data when in combination with the engine speed and Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. It is also used in OBD II vehicles to make sure the operational health of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve, and acts as a backup device for vehicles with a mass airflow sensor (to monitor the mentioned system) when such check is required.

Although the manifold absolute pressure sensor is fairly reliable, it can still experience failures that would cause the engine to not start or start improperly, detonation, misfire, poor fuel efficiency, and a lack in power. All of these indicators can be signaled by an illuminated Check Engine Light. The lack of performance may stem from a contaminated, clogged, or damaged sensor due to repeated exposure to intense engine heat and vibration.
