Introduction
The Fuel Flow Sensor (FFS) is designed to work in countries that use fuel combinations consisting of gasoline and ethanol, either anhydrous or hydrous, as a power source for motor vehicles. The FFS is part of the Fuel Storage and Handling Subsystem, and is used to measure the total ethanol percentage in the fuel. The ethanol content is updated accordingly in the electronic control unit (ECU) in order to ensure engine and its components don't suffer from damages due to incorrect ethanol percentage in the fuel.
Mechanical Mounting Requirements
The FFS must be installed anywhere from the fuel tank to engine compartment, with environmental temperatures ranging from minimum -40°C to maximum 125°C. It should be installed in the low pressure side of the fuel line, after the fuel filter to avoid any large particles blocking the sensor. If installed in return fuel line, one must, however, keep in mind that fuel will drain before the sensor can provide a correct signal. Bometec has learned from other customers that, if space availability is an issue, the sensor can be horizontally installed at a slight angle to prevent entrapped air in the pipe.
