Product Description:

A manifold absolute pressure sensor is used to measure the intake manifold pressure. By taking in the pressure information and using it to calculate the air density, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) is able to determine the air-fuel mixture for the combustion process. Additionally, the ECU uses this data to measure the engine load, fuel injection pulse, and adjust ignition timing.

The manifold pressure sensor can have many uses, such as:

  • Diagnosing throttle performance issues.
  • Checking for a vacuum leak in the intake manifold.
  • Converting a MAP sensor signal into air mass data with engine speed and Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor data.
  • Testing if the Exhaust Gas Recirculation or EGR valve is working properly.
  • Monitoring the EGR valve in vehicles with a mass airflow sensor or MAF sensor.

Common causes of manifold pressure sensor failure include contamination, clogging, electronic damage from intense engine heat, and vibration damage from sustained exposure in the engine compartment. Symptoms of a failing pressure sensor may include engine not starting, detonation or misfire, excessive fuel consumption, lack of engine power, and Check Engine Light.
