Introduction
The Fuel Flux Sensor (FFS) is designed to be used in countries across North America, South America and Southeast Asia. It is of particular use in these areas as many of these countries have designed or adopted fuel blends of gasoline and ethanol for vehicle operations. The FFS is a component of the Fuel Storage and Handling Subsystem, and is responsible for determining and presenting the total ethanol percentage present in the fuel.
By being able to calculate the total ethanol percentage, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) is then able to dynamically update in order to effectively adapt the engine parameters to the new fuel. This helps to avoid potential damage to the engine or its components as a result of incorrect ethanol content.

When it comes to mechanical mounting requirements, there are several things that should be considered. Installation can occur in any location on the chassis, from the fuel tank to the engine compartment. The environmental temperature should not exceed +125°C maximum or go below -40°C minimum. Additionally, the sensor should be installed in the low pressure side of the fuel line. The fuel can flow in either direction through the sensor fuel tube (measurement cell) and it's important to additionally install it after the fuel filter, so as to keep any larger particles out of the sensor. If the sensor is installed in the return fuel line, there may be a delay in correct output until fuel has reached the sensor.
Regarding installation, we have received several pieces of advice from customers. It has been suggested that the sensor should ideally be installed horizontally, with a slight angle to avoid entrapment of air in the pipe. Alternatively, a vertical installation, where the sensor is filled from the bottom up, can also help to avoid air from getting entrapped. It is further recommend to use a flexible fuel line with a quick-connect connector to the sensor's fuel tube. If the sensor is placed directly under the vehicle, the connector should be facing towards the rear of the vehicle, or if it's facing the front of the vehicle, it is crucial it be protected from any debris. Finally, the factory installed fuel tube end caps should remain on until the sensor is fully assembled to the vehicle in order to keep it clean.
